The Global Solidarity Subcommittee is concerned with fostering understanding and support for our brothers and sisters around the world. It includes our Twin Parish relationship in Washington, DC, St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church.
Twinning with St. Martin's DC: For the past 23 years, St. Martin's DC and St. Raphael's has joined efforts to engage our parishioners in the sharing of spirituality, music, life experience and fellowship. Shared activities include an annual picnic and retreat, a pulpit exchange, a Thanksgiving Food and Frozen Turkey Drive for the disadvantaged and vulnerable people in the St. Martin Community of N.W. D.C., a winter coat drive and our annual support from our Advent Giving Tree program.
Operation Rice Bowl: A
Lenten
activity involving the distribution of educational material and weekly bulletin communications to parishioners regarding the work accomplished in the international development of impoverish countries around the world and here in the U.S. Run by Catholic Relief Services, it is a fundraising opportunity to help people to become self-sufficient through the teaching of improved agricultural and irrigation techniques as well as funding for establishing businesses. The programs increases productivity and fosters self-esteem to our sisters and brothers overseas and in the U.S.
